Mitochondrial Disease Information Day - Melbourne

About 50 people attended the Mitochondrial Information Day on Saturday 1st May 2010 at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Key presentations included:

  • Prof. Carolyn Sue from the Royal North Shore Hospital discussed treatment and healthy living for adults affected by mitochondrial disease

  • A/Prof. Avihu Boneh from The Royal Children's Hospital spoke about the treatment of children with mitochondrial disease

  • A/Prof David Thorburn from The Royal Children's Hospital covered the current status of international research on the diagnosis and treatment of mitochondrial disease.

Two AMDF board members, Sean Murray & Doug Lingard, outlined why the AMDF was set up, its progress to date & its main fundraising activity, Stay in Bed Day.

Rose Lingard gave a very personal & moving talk about living with mito disease & how it has changed her life. This was the first time some of the younger medical professionals present encountered the disease from a personal view rather than the clinical one.
