World Stay in Bed Day 2011

Stay in Bed DayHeld on Sunday 25th September, Stay in Bed Day saw the support of international organisations for the first time. They included: The Lily Foundation (UK), MitoCanada, MitoAction (USA), NZMito and UMDF (USA). The official Stay in Bed Day Facebook and Twitter pages allowed for the creation of a virtual world wide bed, with live photo and status updates from supporters and participants around the world.

The AMDF board has approved the expenditure of an additional $150K on research projects. This includes approximately $100K for a PhD research scholarship with the allocation of the remainder currently under review by the AMDF Scientific and Medical Advisory Panel to be announced early in 2012.

Essentially, World Stay in Bed Day 2011 was an overwhelming success in creating awareness of mitochondrial disease and the work of the AMDF. Having international participation and support for the initiative means there is great potential in future to gain further support, fund even more research and eventually find a cure for mito!
