Patient Standards of Care
PATIENT STANDARDS OF CARE
International standards of care have been established for patients with primary mitochondrial disease. The standards provide recommendations and guidelines for clinicians that will lead to improved patient management and care.
The standards will be applied to an Australian context via a steering committee established by AMDF. By implementing these standards, AMDF hopes patients receive care in line with international best practice, and see improvements in their health outcomes.
The Mitochondrial Medicine Society established the standards as part of an international collaborative project. Scientific and Medical Advisory Panel members Professors John Christodoulou and Carolyn Sue were involved in the process.
