Changes to the AMDF Board

Changes to the AMDF Board

The Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (AMDF) is committed to giving all members of the mito community a voice and so draw its board members from across Australia.

Since 2014, Dave Cleary has represented WA. He has recently relocated from Perth to Sydney and thus has stepped down from the Board. The directors and staff thank Dave for his contribution and wish him, Jane and their family the very best for their future in Sydney.

AMDF has the pleasure of welcoming Fiona Elmer and her husband Dan Loden to the Board as new WA representatives, Fiona as a Director and Dan as her Alternate Director. Fiona is a geologist with a research background, and is also a founding member of AMDF’s Mito Community Advisory Panel. Since their eldest child, Aidan, was diagnosed with mito in October 2014, Fiona and Dan have been involved with several events to raise funds and awareness for mito.

Fiona organised the first Perth support group meeting in March 2016 and continues to work with the patient community to push this initiative. She has also been a patient speaker at the Perth Mito Information Day in 2017. Dan is helping AMDF advocate to change federal and state laws to permit mitochondrial donation in Australia. This groundbreaking IVF technique will give Australian women with faulty mitochondrial DNA the chance to have children free of mito.

A warm welcome to Fiona and Dan from all of us at AMDF.
